Hazy Moon Zen - Meditation for today
Hazy Moon Zen is a friendly meditation community based in Doncaster. Zen Buddhism is a practical tradition that has been handed down teacher to student through many generations, we trace our lineage and practice back through Japan, China and India to Shakyamuni Buddha. With minimum liturgy and ritual it is perfectly suited to the western environment and psychological approach. Zen is not a religion or philosophy it is a set of practical methods to work with the mind.

Scott Sensei

Scott Sensei is a teacher of Zen meditation, including shikantaza (just sitting in awareness) and koan practice (deep enquiry), tracing his lineage to the esteemed Taizan Maezumi Roshi. Born and raised in Liverpool, he started practicing meditation when he was 13 before seeking and meeting his teacher in 1997.

Scott Sensei’s teaching style is grounded in the realisation that awareness has the capacity to heal and transform our daily life; from being lost in thought, overpowered by feelings and distractions to being centred and awake in any situation. His approach emphasises the importance of integrating meditation into everyday life, fostering a compassionate and aware existence.

In 2017, he was recognised as a Dharma Holder (Hoshi) and, in 2021, received transmission of Dharma (Shiho) from Catherine Genno Pagés Roshi. Despite a demanding career in Change Management and the responsibilities of family life, Scott Sensei has continued to integrate ordinary life and Zen practice.

He established the Hazy Moon Sangha in Doncaster in 2013, providing a supportive space for those seeking to deepen or start a meditation practice. His teachings extend beyond meditation, incorporating compassion practices and Council Circle to cultivate a holistic approach to practice.

He lives in Doncaster with his wife and two children.
