Scott Sensei

Authentic Zen Training in Soto and Rinzai Zen

Scott Sensei is a teacher of Zen meditation, including shikantaza (just sitting in awareness) and koan practice (deep enquiry), tracing his lineage to Taizan Maezumi Roshi. Born and raised in Liverpool, he started practicing meditation when he was 13 and met his teacher Genno Roshi in 1997.

Scott Sensei’s teaching approach is grounded in the realisation that awareness has the capacity to heal and transform our daily life; taking us from being lost in thought, overpowered by feelings and distractions to the practice of being centred and awake in the daily situations we encounter. His approach emphasises the importance of integrating meditation into everyday life through bringing all circumstances to practice.

In 2017, he was recognised as a Dharma Holder (Hoshi) and in 2021, received Dharma Transmission (Shiho) from Catherine Genno Pagés Roshi. Scott is a lay person, a teacher and a student; he married and is a father of two children.

He established the Hazy Moon Zen Sangha in Doncaster in 2013, providing a supportive space for those seeking to deepen or start a meditation practice. His teachings extend beyond meditation, incorporating compassion practices and Council Circle to cultivate a holistic approach to practice.
